Throughout the Cold War, the United States, through the CIA, funded, supplied, and protected a vast continental network of right-wing death squads that spanned South America. This genocidal collaboration between the CIA and six US-backed dictatorships was known as Operation Condor. In its wake, it left 80,000 dead, and 400,000 more disappeared into secret prisons.
